Frat life is good.

We set off the fire alarm making pizza at 1 am last weekend and they still love us.

We greeted the firemen in glowstick attire from being at a party, and everyone in the frat shared the pizza, each person got about two bites.

After the firemen left and the house mom (in her robe) went back inside we realized we were all still hungry.

So then we went and got some more pizza.

After a few days of workin’ we relaxed at the water park, sarah was forced to go off the high dive by the kid that she was babysitting.

Then we went and ate Chinese.

Haven't done anything on here for a while..

Right now, at least from where I’m looking, things are in an upswing—

Sarah and Emily both have solid jobs now that pay over min. wage…jealous.

Jordan and I work together. serving chocolates. and gelato. and smoothies. so awesome.

We’ve been getting to know the GUYS in the house better and they’re all more or less great. (I’ve stopped calling them bros…they mean more to me than that now =])

We’ve also met some really fun people the past few weekends…they like to dance like us, so it’s doubly fun.

We got to see Mindy!!! Still miss her though.

Also hung out with Tabitha and here and Sarah are bondin’ again =]

I found a place to live!!!! this one mainly affects me, but hey, another place to hang/party?

…so basically, frat summer is treating all of us reeealllyy well. I almost called Theta Chi “home” yesterday in a text actually…and honestly, it kind of is.

Last night we grilled out, and were informed that Donna (house mom) cooked tons of extra food, so we had dinner fit for a queen: burgers, past salad, corn on the cob, and SCOTCHAROOS.

Later on we paraded around the bro floor at midnightish to bring out the bros to play some vball.

Emily wore her sombrero and BBQ apron to entice them.

Of course they couldn’t resist, so we set out into the darkness to play some midnight volleyball. Considering the fact that it was pitch black..volleyball was actually more similar to dodge ball.

We brainstormed other outside games that could be played at night. “It” tag, Fugitive, and Predator and Prey were the top choices. We all decided on Fugitive so we split up our group of 10 into pairs, and raced to the Molecular Biology building while being chased by two people on a tandem.

After two games, many near deaths on the tandem, a lot of walking/running and a lot of sweat we headed back to Theta Chi, wished everyone good night, and headed off to the 3rd floor sauna for a good nights sweat.

Soo, last week, we had to venture to a grassy area to complete the photo part of my picnic story for the Daily. On the way there, my car overheated on Duff, causing sheer panic for the second time this summer. And because this car of mine is falling apart and because my dad insisted on ensuring my mechanical skills during adolescence, I sorta knew what I was doing. But not really. So we stood there in our picnic attire staring at the smoking engine, and just let it go. Eventually we got back to the frat, the picnic took place and all was well.

Two days later-

I drive my car to complete a simple task across town, and the evening ended with me riding in the front seat of a tow truck alongside “Junior” to Tuffy’s-where my car is being worked on.

On a better note-Sarah and I took the tandem for a jaunt to west Ames last night, and choose the absolute wrong path. We turned around after riding about the entire length of the pitch black cross country course, but it was still good. We’ll get all the way there some day.

The high was 98 today-and probably 105 on third floor. After work, I was informed that JUST third floor’s AC is confirmed broken. So, to avoid upper lip sweat just while lounging, we are going to complete most activities downstairs.

I just got done reading and climbing trees on central campus and decided that I would update this, not that much has really been going on.

Exciting News!

-We are all officially employed for the summer. Annie and I-Chocolaterie Stam, Sarah got a receptionist job at Steamway Cleaning and Restoration, and Emily got a job at Hickory Park. Come join any of us at our places of work, I’m sure we would all enjoy it.

- We got a $45 dollar lonnggg, brown, plaid like couch for our hallway. It’s the main place to chill.

- The other two girls that are living in the frat this summer finally moved in. Both are way cool. One (Sarah) is a captain on the ISU Diving team and enjoys serenading us with her guitar in hand on the long brown couch in the hallway. Whaddup Ingrid Michaelson sing alongs. The other (Maddie) is the girlfriend of the Vice Prez and she seems pretty cool as well. All of us including all the bros watched No Strings Attached last night. How cute.

- We found out about 50 cent friday nights at Salvation Army AND $5 pizzas at Litter Caesar’s. More ways for us to spend as little money as possible.

-THE TANDEM IS FIXED AND UP AND RUNNING.

Not So Exciting News

-Now that we’re all working all the time it’s harder to get everyone together to do things. But we’re workin’ on it.

-The air still sucks here at Theta Chi. The “cold air” where all the beds are is just a sweaty messsUmmm yep. Tha’s about it for now.

- The bathroom still smells like strong urine at all times.

ummm..yep I think that’s about it. Kinda lame update. My apologies.

a haphazard paraphrasing of my summer thus far

wellp, I just got added onto this thing tonight, like two-ish weeks into summer, so it’d be silly for me to write a detailed post of my happenings. Instead, here is my fun(not really) way of summarizing my frat life to date!

So far this summer i’ve mainly…

worked. ran. done laundry at completely inappropriate times of night. proust-ed. worked. driven to random towns. wal-mart-ed. worked. movie-d. just straight wandered (turns out i do this more than i think/thought i do). tanned. worked. gotten sick. played volleyball. worked. worked. worked.

anddd of course bonding/hanging with the best friends during most of this!

I enjoy things here; it’s a slower pace than what I had back at home, and there are less places to go simply because we all live together, but I really enjoy how chill things are here and especially having an entire summer to get to know these girls better. Tonight is a good example of that (this is a reference only the other girls in the frat will get, i apologize), and it makes me happy that we can have just as much fun basically living in a hallway as the kids that have an entire network of houses & pools, etc., at their disposal.

Walt Whitman once remarked, “I have learned that to be with those I like is enough.” Truer words have never been spoken.

Wednesday consisted of :

Myself having yet another interview. I mean, who really knows where it’ll go. I haven’t had a lot of luck in the job department lately and I’m not going to get my hopes up for yet another dead end. Is it so much to be wanted by food service? Society, society.

Young Delzell and I walked to the library hand in hand, gazing into each other’s eyes, and whispering sweet nothings into the other’s ear.

But really, it consisted of our wild imaginations thinking of the awkward situations that could happen, but of course, didn’t happen.

I saw Terrence on this walk.

Unexpected.

He’s a “Blood” back in Houston. Y’know, the gang?

He doesn’t intimidate me at all.

I waved and continued on my journey.

Unfortunately, Annabelle had to work at three and she was not able to join us on our escapade to Reiman Garden. We walked among butterflies, the Mexican border, and the world’s largest gnome. I came out wearing a proud medal of an extremely pronounced sunburn on my back but my red lipstick fought through the jungle.

Still an unfortunate event, Annabelle was still working.

And then there was Jordan and Sarah.

I never knew Bingo was such a serious, competitive, and utterly ridiculous event. We anticipated the Jackpot of $500 but were devastated when a Senior Citizen woman swept the prize right from under our feet in the blink of an eye.

We had three numbers left to be called until Blackout.

Three numbers.

You could say it was a bummer night for our Bingo cards, but we’ll get ‘em next time.

Frat Guys.

Well some. Are a little different then I thought, I guess. Tonight a guy talked to us about how he wants to see the movie Bridesmaids. About five minutes later another guy walked in with his new movie from Netflix which was “How Do You Know” he had a conversation with yet a different guy about how good Sweet Alabama was and how they should watch that tonight too.

Later we all played volleyball together. Not competitive, basically just messin’ around cause we’re all not that great.

Then some of us decided to go to Arthur at the $1 theatre. Yet a different guy talked about how he drinks every once in awhile but usually has more fun when he’s not drinking. Then after that I think I caught him tapping his foot to The Smiths.

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover I guess. Not that I think all frat guys are the same…I just like being surprised.

I think we’re growing on them.

MY FOLKS

So, I left Ames to come home. It hasn’t risen past 45 degrees yet, and I brought skirts, dresses, and shorts. Luckily, I haven’t felt well enough to go anywhere, except to get my wisdom teeth pulled out of my mouth. Otherwise it’s been myself in my sister’s sweats sitting next to the folks in their recliners. So far I’ve watched-Unstoppable, Silence of the Lambs, Casablanca, some horse movie, MAURY, and awholelotta news. Today, I’m wasting my day in the Old Market with old friends.

I heard I missed out on some quality bro time back in the house.

Sarah’s been wearin my headband, getting jobs, loosing jobs, applying for more jobs, driving her van, hanging out with Softhands Scott, and turning her maternal instincts loose while taking care of Annie.

Annie has the stomach flu, I think :( I wish I was there to baby her. Tuck her in when she goes to bed. Feed her. Bring her movies to watch…

Emily is getting her wisdom teef out. I hope she’s goin crazy on the Vicodin…and recovering well…eatin lotsa ice creammm.

Sarah is gettin’ screwed by Salvation Army. The crazy manager doesn’t remember who she is everytime she goes in there. He even hired her and didn’t remember that. For one, I heard this whole convo as I was creepin through the clothing racks, for two, Sarah Moore def. is not forgettable. So he’s obv. crazy.

and I’m home. In my hometown of Morning Sun, Iowa. Population approx. 1,500. I watched tv for 6 hours last night.Blehhh I wanna be back in Ames with mah friends…and the frat bros I guess.

Bein' Resourceful

Yesterday, it was decided this was the first day of summer.

Annie has basically launched herself as a full time Chocolatier at Stam downtown. While she dipped strawberries and served gelatto, we were hard at work back at Theta Chi.

I retrieved a bike from the racks outside MWL. This bright purple, 3 speed gem will serve as my get-around this summer.

We then decided to grill ourselves dinner. All of Sarah’s time in front of the food network has landed her a position as our head chef around here this summer…

We had grilled onions, peppers, zucchini, mushrooms-followed by hamburgers and chips.

I feel as though we’re “roughing it” around here, I’m sure being resourceful is a more accurate description. —We used the two shopping carts on the patio as our prep table—and later put this piece of plywood on top of a, I don’t know, cow tank? that we found by the volleyball court to serve as our table.

Later, we watched a bromcom we found in the tv room, starring Dane Cook and that one guy that’s in all of these movies, Jason Biggs. We of course played a round of pool while doing so.

Very few interactions with the bros—pretty sure there are only two of them in the house, they probably all went home to see their mothers.

We arrived to Theta Chi yesterday as Frat Men from across the street were sitting in a small child sized blow up pool blaring terrible music.

A man named Moses moved us in.

I found a diaper and sheet music behind a desk in my room.

Right now the only people in the cold air on our floor are us.

We’re obviously going to push all the bunks together and construct a huge bed that can be used for any kind of race, obstacle course or fort possible.
